#Paris once again the world's undisputed fashion capital.

When Paris fashion week begins on Monday, it will do so in a city that is once again the undisputed fashion capital of the world.

New York, Milan and London have all tried to take its crown, but more than ever Paris remains fashion's reference point, analysts insist.

An exodus of American designers to Paris left New York fashion week earlier this month a withered shadow of its former self.
The loss of Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne and Altuzarra to Paris prompted a bout of soul-searching in the US fashion industry which had felt that momentum was on its side.

"Three is a trend, but now there's four," said US Vogue's Nicole Phelps. "And it's not just any four; it's four of the best regarded, most influential labels on the calendar. New York has lost a good-sized chunk of its new guard."

The iconic New York brand Tommy Hilfiger also decamped to London, with sportswear giant Lacoste following the rush to Paris. And on Friday the ever so British Mulberry also said it was quitting its traditional London berth for Paris.

While New York fashion week's slimmed down line-up now lasts six days like Milan, and London is all over in four, Paris is a whirlwind of nine mostly madly packed days.

- New York's bid to rewrite rules -

The turnaround in fortunes is all the more startling given that 18 months ago New York looked like it was going to turn the whole fashion calendar on its head.

Its big commercial brands were pushing a shift to the "see now, buy now" model, where clothes go straight on sale after shows.

Paris resisted ending the traditional four- to six-month lag from runway to retail, warning of the environmental impact of unsold clothes no one liked and claiming it would steamroll creativity and younger labels who need to try out ideas on the catwalk.

With many designers already questioning the need for fashion shows in an age of Instagram launches, Paris looked like it might be caught on the wrong side of history.

But things have worked out quite differently, French analyst Nicolas Boulanger of L&CPG consultants told AFP.

Paris has only become more dominant, he said.

"There is a density of luxury brands (in Paris) that you do not find elsewhere, and the fact that it is the home city of large groups like Kering and LVMH, who dominate luxury brands, only reinforces its historic hold," Boulanger said.

He argued that Paris has a "greater legitimacy in some respects over other fashion capitals" because of the "holy unction" imparted by haute couture, the elite shows of handmade creations that are only held in the French capital.

Boulanger said part of the reason that Paris has been "shining even more" in recent seasons was because haute couture opened its doors to younger talent.

 - Tom Ford's return -

Steven Kolb, head of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which runs the New York shows, remains bullish, citing how New York poached pop star Rihanna's Fenty Puma show back after two years in Paris.

The council is also making the best of a bad lot by showcasing 13 American designers' work in Paris.

Kolb told reporters that the US brands who defected to Paris had done so for personal or strategic reasons, mostly to prolong the time their collections stay in the shops.

"If you were to ask any one of them, I think they would confirm that it's not a negative statement on New York," he said.

And Boulanger agrees that talk of New York fashion week's demise is off the mark. "Tom Ford's return to show in New York... means he sees his future there and it would be foolish to write it off in an industry where everything moves so fast," he said.

As if to prove the point the Global Language Monitor, which measures the online and media impact of major events, this month named New York on top of its annual "global fashion capitals" list, toppling Paris.

Boulanger insisted that having a few fashion capitals rather than just one was "important in a truly global business... so having different capitals with different personalities is a strength," he added.

Neymar world record PSG move imminent

.

BARCELONA - Neymar could be presented as a Paris Saint-Germain player as early as this weekend for a world record fee as Barcelona admitted defeat in convincing the Brazilian to stay at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

The player has travelled to Porto by private jet from Barcelona surrounded by his entourage, including his father and agent Neymar Sr, after saying goodbye to his Barca teammates.

Among that party was Wagner Ribeiro, an advisor to the player, who claimed PSG would pay his 222 million euro ($260 million) buyout clause in the "coming hours".

That would more than double the current transfer record set by Paul Pogba's 89.3 million pounds ($111 million, 105.2 million euros) move to Manchester United last year.

Media reports suggested that Neymar had gone to Porto, where PSG sporting director Antero Henrique had worked until recently, to undergo a pre-transfer medical.

Sources told AFP that he will arrive in Paris on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, Barcelona ended weeks of speculation by publicly confirming for the first time the 25-year-old's wish to leave after four years at the Camp Nou.

"Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and representative, communicated to FC Barcelona this morning his decision to leave the club," Barca said in a statement.

"The club have informed them that the buyout clause in his contract, that from July 1 is 222 million euros, must be paid in full."

Neymar has been tempted to Paris by an astronomical offer that would reportedly see his wages tripled to 30 million euros a year after tax.

However, on the field he also faces the challenge of stepping out of the shadow of five-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi to try and prove himself as the world's best.

"It was a huge pleasure having shared all those years with you, my friend @neymarjr," Messi posted on Instagram alongside a montage displaying some of the pair's finest moments together.

"I wish you lots of luck in this new stage in your life. See you soon tkm," he added. "Tkm" stands for "te quiero mucho" (I love you loads).

"Thanks brother. I will miss you man," Neymar replied.

Presuming both clubs don't come to a late agreement, the buyout clause would have to be paid to Barcelona via Spain's La Liga to free the player from the contract he signed last year and runs until 2021.

However, La Liga president Javier Tebas has threatened not to accept PSG's money over what he perceives as a failure on the French side's part to comply with UEFA's financial fair play rules (FFP).

Clubs can be sanctioned by UEFA for making a loss of more than 30 million euros over a three-year period.

"We will not accept this money from a club like PSG," Tebas told Madrid sports daily AS on Wednesday. "Especially when this club is infringing rules and laws."

Champions League dream -
==========================

Winning the Champions League for a first time is the dream driving PSG's owners Oryx Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) to fund a deal that could herald the start of a new era at the elite level of European football.

Since QSI's takeover in 2011, PSG have failed to make it beyond the quarter-final stage - most notably blowing a 4-0 first leg lead to lose 6-1 to a Neymar-inspired Barcelona in the last 16 of last season's competition in March.

Prising Neymar from the grip of Barca would truly announce PSG's presence as a contender for the likes of Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to fear.

Neymar has formed one of the deadliest strike partnerships in football history with Messi and Luis Suarez over the past three seasons.

Together they have won two La Liga titles, a Champions League and three Spanish Cups, whilst Neymar has scored 105 goals and provided 80 assists in just 186 games.

However, his four-year spell in Spain has also been overshadowed by the murky transfer deal which brought him to Barcelona from Santos in 2013.

He and his parents as well as Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu face charges of fraud and corruption in an ongoing case brought by DIS, a Brazilian investment company.

DIS owned 40 percent of the players' rights at the time of the deal and believe they were deliberately cheated out of their real share due to the complex structure of the transfer.

The most Sex-Positive Cities in the World

sex-positive

adjective

having or promoting an open, tolerant, or progressive attitude towards sex and sexuality

At Lazeeva, we acknowledge the importance of intercourse, and are always exploring new ways to encourage openness towards healthy, safe and consensual sex. We wanted to look into how sex is viewed differently around the world, which cities have made progress towards sexual openness, and which would benefit from further liberation in future.

To try and quantify exactly how sexual a city is, a multitude of factors and a huge amount of data is needed from millions of people. Because of the resistance to the topic, this process was especially difficult in certain locations. We began by researching ten factors over 200 cities from around the world, before creating a final list of 100 where the full data was available. These factors included the libido of citizens in a city and their porn consumption, but also the adult entertainment and swingers culture on offer in the location itself.

We also believe that to be truly sexually liberated, a city needs to have good access to modern contraception, a positive attitude to the LGBT community and equal rights for everyone. To recognise this, cities were also given a score for these factors. Once we’d researched the ten factors and calculated the ranking, we added on something fun to end with: what term was most searched for on porn sites in each city.

Paris came first (excuse the pun) in ranking of the most sexual cities, followed by Rio de Janeiro and London. Paris scored exceptionally well for its swinger culture and adult entertainment, whereas Rio de Janeiro outperformed all the other cities in the sexually experimental and sexually active categories. London ranked as the best city for LGBT friendliness worldwide.

Five of the top ten cities for porn consumption were from North America, with the porn production capital Los Angeles unsurprisingly taking first place. Berlin topped the swingers category and also came second for adult entertainment, narrowly beaten by Las Vegas. Antwerp and Brussels scored first and third respectively for sexual satisfaction, followed by three Dutch cities. Clearly they’re doing something right in the Benelux region.
